Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Heat Lightning Imports different?

The team at Heat Lightning Imports are passionate enthusiasts who enjoy seeing others drive their own dream JDM vehicles! We sell cars we love in the way we would want to buy them. The vehicles we list for sale are currently at our shop in Gainesville, GA USA and are ready for you to drive home and enjoy. We take our time prepping vehicles for sale with thorough inspections, perform mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment (as needed) and provide extensive photos and videos so you can transparently see what you’re getting before even coming to look or drive. Every vehicle gets driven at least 300 miles before being posted (including putting our kids in them) because we want you to know you’re getting a solid vehicle. Everything we sell already has a US title so the hard and often confusing work of shipping, customs and paperwork are already sorted.

Do you offer Financing?

Heat Lightning Imports does not directly offer financing but we can recommend a few options if you’d prefer to leverage your credit to drive home your dream JDM vehicle:

  • LightStream offers collector car loans with APRs starting at 8.99% (as of June 2023)

  • Digital Credit Union offers Classic and Antique Auto loans with APRs starting at 8.24% (as of June 2023)

  • JJ Best offers Classic Car Financing and claim the “lowest interest rate loans available on the market”

We also recommend checking with your local bank or credit union. Regardless of how you plan to pay, let us know when you’re ready to talk about your dream ride!

Are your imported cars legal in the US?

Yes! Everything we sell is over 25 years old and are considered “classic cars”, making them federally legal to import into the US. Since we live and operate in Georgia, we’re quite familiar with the regulations here (no additional state inspections, emissions are exempt on vehicles over 25 years old, etc.) If you have questions on your specific state (if not Georgia) feel free to ask but we recommend checking with your local state DMV.

What about right hand drive, that is legal as well?

Yes! There are no federal laws restricting right hand drive vehicles from being driven on US roads. We’re not aware of any states with regulation on driver position but if you’re not in Georgia we would recommend checking with your local authorities. Right hand drive does take a little getting used to so we recommend driving with caution for the first few months of ownership, especially when passing or taking blind turns.
